What is Coaching and How do we work in general?

The word coach comes from a root German word which meant a carriage that people could ride on that was 'pulled along' by a horse. This meaning of 'pulling along' was the derivative meaning used in Oxford, England when this college used academic coaches to 'pull along' or help their students become successful by giving them additional tutoring and support apart from their lectures.

Later of course, this term came to be used as sports coach: where a coach would be hired to coach or 'pull along' a team to success.

The term business coach has a similar meaning: we as business coaches don't necessarily 'pull along' people/clients: we motivate them, inspire them, enroll them, sell them and we advise or consult when appropriate to help them create results.

There are many kinds of coaches out there in the marketplace: they may have very different styles.

The style that we adopt involves daily or frequent support of the following forms

  1. Training in important tools and distinctions e.g. closing sales, time management, getting leads, etc.
  2. Accountability: we train and support our clients in being accountable and holding others in their teams to account gracefully and effectively in a nurturing and effective manner.
  3. Problem / Crisis Management: we train and support our clients in handling problems effectively.
  4. Working through emotions and thoughts and feelings to work at higher levels of effectiveness: from time to time, clients are stuck in obstacles to their growth as a business and business leaders. We help them through these obstacles in a very nurturing yet straight manner.
  5. Consulting Component: We consult with them on their marketing strategies, negotiating strategies, leadership positioning and most if not all of critical business components and functions. We also refer them frequently to our team of consultants: business and transaction attorneys, internet specialists, marketing specialists, CPAs, etc.

We like to act in a close, very committed partnership: A partnership where we are committed to your success and your are committed to our's (our success is your success: so it is all about your success) and there are systems and agreements to increase chances of success.

How do your coaching programs work?

We have a program called the Gold Coaching program.

In this program, we provide daily support: Mon to Fri. It includes group coaching calls once a week and in what we call the hand-holding period, we provide daily coaching support. This hand holding period lasts as long as we deem appropriate: sometimes it lasts months: sometimes a few months: the duration depends on each individual case. We make ourselves available on a daily basis: it depends on you as the client to make use of this service or not. There is also email communications and other messaging technologies that we use to stay in communication throughout the day to help you stay on track.

Plus, every month, you will get an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) session of four hours in a group, face to face with an NLP expert who will help you have freedom with obstacles arising from belief structures and fear and decisions from the past.

We typically start out by creating a starter plan with milestones: very simple.

We work on improving and fine tuning this plan as we work together.

Of course, this may be completely different for you; We do our best to customize our coaching program to your unique circumstances and goals.

Why do I coach and How did I come to do coaching?

The short answer is because I love making a difference and I started winning ballroom dance competitions.

My previous career was as an engineering manager and engineer. I was well paid and respected in my career; I loved the work, but one day I woke up and I felt quite “burnt out”.

I knew I was up to more creative, interesting and “bigger” things.

One day in 1991, I heard about coaching and decided to try it out. At about the same time, I started doing ball room dancing (you go figure!). All my life I wanted to know how to dance, but I viewed myself as “a shy Indian Engineer who did not know his left foot from his right hand”. I was so burnt out and desperate to change my life that I decided to start doing ballroom lessons. Just doing the lessons was sufficient I thought, to turn around my “burn out”. My coach thankfully had different ideas on how I should proceed.

From my coach, I learned that I “really needed to take more risks in my life” and that I “needed to challenge myself” in dancing. I told him he was crazy … then …. I signed up to do a dance show and take part in 3 dance competitions. You go figure!

Long story short, my coach coached me to take a BIG risk in my tango competition. I dipped my partner (my dance instructor) who proceeded to look very shocked; it was a perfect dip and so unexpected, that the crowd of about 500 people stunned at first, got up on their chairs and tables and started applauding and shouting in excitement.

Long story short, I won first prize in Tango, first prize in Waltz and first prize in Foxtrot (Orange County Beginners Level), after 3 months of ballroom dancing and not knowing my left foot from my right hand.

I realized quickly that this coaching thing really worked, so I decided to actually listen more to my coach.

Long story short, I took more coaching and it resulted in some outstanding results: I made enough money to quit my engineering job and travel to Europe and Asia, date the most popular Hollywood actress at that time (I am not going to tell you who so don’t ask), appear on German TV and have a lot of fun!

I decided that having gotten so much and created so much success for myself, I wanted to give back and train other people to have their Self Expression and Wealth.

Thank you.
